Leonberger

The Leonberger is a very large dog ( 25-32 inches high and weighing on aberage 110-170 lbs) named after the city of Leonberg in south-west Germany. They are typically kind, friendly, self assuranced, easy going and unflappable. They can make a great family dog and non-attacking guard dog who will alert you to a threat and stand watch, using his size and presence to protect rather than his teeth. Don't let their size fool you though, Leonbergers are sensitive, and become attached to their pack very quickly and very deeply.

While a large dog, a Leonberger is very agile and athletic and requires daily exercise. They don't require a large yard and can adapt to modest living quarters if he is given time with his owners, a daily walk and regular training time. Socialization and thorough obedience training are extremely important with any giant breed, including Leonbergers.

The Leonberger sheds fur very heavily.

The median lifespan of Leonberger is about 7 years.
